For women who are sexually active, getting screened for STDs is an important part of protecting your health.
There are a number of guidelines about screening depending on your age and circumstances. Our physicians can determine which tests you need and when.
According to the CDC, anyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should be tested for HIV at least once. Sexually active women under 25 and women over 25 with certain risk factors should be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia each year. Pregnant women are tested for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C early in pregnancy and those at risk are also tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
Many STDs are curable and all can be treated.
